X is for Xenops and I is for Infancy.....

Wow!!
I've made it...
I finished the Alpha Challenge
Over at
-oOo-
We are finally at the last two letters for the Alpha/Dictionary challenge!
X and I
I had one small and one large compartment left to alter...
and for my last 2 cubbies in my Printers Tray
-oOo-
Letter X
I went for the word

Xenops
xen-ops n.
1.   a genus in the bird family Furnariidae, the ovenbirds. They are found in Mexico, Central America and South America and tropical rain forest

So using one of the smaller cubbies in my Printer Tray this week....I filled it with a teeny tiny nest and my little Xenops birdy (which I painted to try and resemble this particular bird!) and then adding to part of a previous challenge, (which was next to my cubby) I added my dictionary definition to complete my X challenge.
-oOo-
Letter I
I went with the word
Infancy
in·fan·cy n. pl. in·fan·cies
1. The earliest period of childhood, especially before the ability to walk has been acquired.
2. The state of being an infant.
..and for my Last Large cubby, I created an infant from a clay cab face, which I painted with my PaperArtsy fresco paints,

wrapped and filled some scrim with toy filling, added the clay face, and attached a red shell heart button.
Finally backing the cubby with some of my dictionary book cover and added my dictionary definition.
-oOo-
....and Izzy has asked us to share a picture of our finished dictionary (or other completed project)
So here it is....
-oOo-
and if you are interested in seeing any of my individual alpha challenges, you can see them easier by pressing Here
-oOo-
So there we go, a wonderful Alpha challenge has come to the end. It has been great mojo motivator every fortnight...and I've had so much fun choosing words and altering my tray for this years challenge...
Many thanks to the Craft Barn for the fabby inspiration and looking forward to the New  challenge which starts 12th January 2014.

Thanks for Peeking

...and my green destash for May

Now...I'm excitedly waiting for my swap from Marie which is coming from the USA, So will share what I get when it arrives :)

Still here.....Been busy crafting!....

Been a bad blogger this month,
....lots of celebrations throughout November
....but still managed to fit in some crafty time along the way.

I'm really enjoying my latest hobby of...
Knitting

knitting premature baby bonnets for charity
-oOo-
and some Christmas Stockings
...and some smaller ones for the tree.

-oOo-
...and was shocked when my knitted Nigel the Gnome

bagged me £50 of Hobbycraft Vouchers
by winning Star Letter
in
this months
 Knitting and Crochet
magazine
(Can't wait to have a crafty spend-up!!)
-oOo-
I've seen some lovely rag wreaths on pinterest, and often thought of making one, but just never got around to it, but I was inspired by Susan at our knit group, who made a lovely one to display her knitted goodies, and showed us how easy it was to make a rag wreath.
-oOo-
So I decided to make one in my shabby style...
with some off cuts of cream curtain lining
then I decorated it with buttons, cotton reels, paper flowers, frozen charlotte doll, handmade padded fabric heart and a hessian bow.
.....then added some battery operated lights to give it some extra sparkle at night.
Now, must finish my Christmas cards....and not long to go before the rest of the festive decs go up!!....can't wait LOL!

...and my Printers tray is brimming with Alpha goodies!
-oOo-

I'm amazed with myself (The procrastinating Queen!) for keeping up with this challenge, ....but soooooo determined not to miss one week of the alpha dictionary challenge.... and with only a few hours to go before the new challenge letter is announced, I had to get thinking cap on and create my 'Q' cubby...
-oOo-
I was inspired by the Pearly Queens of London
in their pearly button treasures!

and here is the result....

I went with the word
 Queen
for this letter...So using one of the smaller cubbies this week....along with my distressed French dictionary definition, some old book paper....
I added a vintage crown adorned with pearly heart beads and a button.....and a 'Q' scrabble tile.

Family Sketch Challenge.....

If you have been following along with my blog....I'm sure you will remember some of the challenges that I have been having throughout the year with my scrapbooking mad cousin Kerry and my equally creative Auntie Joan.
Today,  I have another one to share with you. We decided that each of us would design a sketch and we would all create a page based on the sketch.
 -oOo-
Here's the sketch that the talented Kerry designed...

and here is the page I was inspired to make from it.....
My page
I  scrapped a pic of my Barney Boy and his furry friend Dolly.
Using a selection of assorted papers, Bo Bunny, Tim Holtz...
shabbied and torn...
embellished with vintage buttons, lace, doilies, tags, washi tape, TH film strip.
Just under the photo, I have made a little collar from some tape measure and a Tim Holtz ideaology buckle.
-oOo-
....and this is what my auntie Joan did with the same sketch
Joan's Page
I Love the blues and oranges colour combo she used, the fab stitching and beautifully co-ordinated flower cluster!
-oOo-
and Kerry's page brought a big smile to my face,
she chose to scrap a piccy of ...
My brother, me, Kerry and her brother

Kerry's Page

taken quite a few years ago!!!
Oooooh I was such a tom-boy when I was younger!!
-oOo-
Kerry did a wonderful job with the colour co-ordinated and torn papers and embellies, love the sweet little birdies and hearts!
-oOo-
I really enjoy seeing the results of our fun family challenges, the outcomes always amaze me with the different takes on each challenge.... and it is My turn to create a sketch next!!! Best get my thinking cap on!!

Thanks for Peeking!

and here is the result....
I went with the word
 Nib
for this letter....
So in one of the smaller cubbies this week....along with my distressed dictionary definition..
I added a miniature rolled up Newspaper and a Pen Nib, It is not clear in the pic, but the Nib also has the word Notes imprinted on it

My Printers tray is nearly full now...
I'll be quite sad when the challenge is over...but the good news is The Craft Barn are already working on their New challenge with their amazing DT!!   Will look forward to see what they have in store for us next time!!

Its all about ...

Gold

Dresden scrap

Knit and Stitch!!!.....

Oh.. it's been so busy in the Smifferoo household ....
Not had a chance to blog about my lovely day out at
The Ally Pally Knitting and Stitching Show...
I was lucky enough to win two tickets from these lovely people...
Ali and Tony at Crafty Ribbons
-oOo-
...and this knitting covered taxi was what greeted us at the entrance to the show!.....
Fabulous show...with loads of inspiration
Loved these knitted bags...and just look at those ginormous buttons.
Just had to buy a couple for my button collection!!
...and talking of whoppers...Giant Knitting needles!!
You can make some lovely rugs with these!
 ..and beautiful display pieces everywhere.

I particulary liked a collaged clothing collection by Mandy Patullo
I had a few little purchases of knitting mags, fabric and Buttons!!

-oOo-
Now I've always loved a bit of stitchery...and my mum tried her hardest to teach me to knit when I was younger...Bless her...but being a bit of a tomboy..I would rather have a game of footie with my brother and his friends LOL!!
A little while back I taught myself to knit (again) via the internet (what we do without it now eh!!) to make some simple hats for the
The Big knit in 2011 (HERE)
...but I never picked up my needles again until recently....
I knew how to knit and purl
but had forgotten how to cast on..and had no clue how to cast off!!
So.... I joined a local knitting group
of Nattery Knitters run by Susan
...and have just recently accomplished my first Patterns
Meet Nigel the Gnome....

...and his friend Marvin the Moose

we've also been busy knitting hearts for charity...

Thanks for Peeking!

L is for locomotive.....

Letter L

...is this fortnight's chosen letter for the Alpha challenge

over at
Wow...week 21 already!
...and there is an extra twist this week,
there has to be a window on your creation...
Mmmmm, I had to have a big think about this one...
the L letters that I had in mind had nothing to do with a window!! Agh!
So for much needed inspiration.. I rooted around in my Junk box and came across something that had windows and was perfect for this weeks challenge....
-oOo-

I went with the word
Locomotive
for this letter....

So in one of my cubbies this week....along with my distressed dictionary definition..
I added a little red Locomotive toy,  (complete with windows!!) and some cheesecloth steam!
I also added an idea-ology 'Expedition'
and a little Lotto number to my tray!
My Printers tray is filling up nicely now...
-oOo-

Off to take a peek now
to see what everyone else is doing with the  letter 'L'.
